Ian Heinisch withdraws from UFC 250, Gerald Meerschaert faces Anthony Ivy
Ian Heinisch is out of his UFC 250 middleweight bout after one of his corners tested positive for the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to multiple sources, WXC welterweight champion Anthony Ivy is stepping in to fight Gerald Meerschaert on Saturday, June 6. MMA Fighting first reported Heinisch’s exit.
Ivy is on a five-fight unbeaten streak ahead of his UFC debut. He is coming off a fourth-round knockout over Willis Black III at WXC 82 in September 2019.
Meerschaert is coming off a third-round rear-naked choke victory against Deron Winn at UFC 248 on March 7. Meerschaert is 6-4 inside the octagon.
Heinisch was coming off a two-fight losing skid, falling to Omari Akhmedov and Derek Brunson. Before back-to-back defeats, he rattled off two-consecutive victories over Antonio Junior Carlos and Cezar Ferreira.
Ian Heinisch earned a UFC contract with a first-round TKO win against Justin Sumter on Dana White’s Contender Series in August 2018.
UFC 250 is taking place at an empty UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada. It is the second event to take place at the facility in a week’s time.
