Three title fights headlined a loaded seven-fight, fight card, Thursday, July 9, as The Chelsea at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas hosted Invicta Fighting Championship during International Fight Week.
Headlining the event was the featherweight title fight between champion Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino (13-1, 1 NC) and New Zealand’s Faith Van Duin (5-1). It took only 45 seconds for Cyborg to dismantle the challenger.
In the night’s co-main event, a new bantamweight champion was crowned as Tonya Evinger (15-5) locked horns with Mexico’s Irene Aldana (5-1). Evinger said before the fight that she planned on ruining the UFC’s plan of bringing Aldana into their 135-pound roster and she did exactly that. Evinger stopped Aldana in the fourth round via TKO.
Also on the card, an atomweight title fight between Brazilian champion Herica Tiburcio (9-2) and Japan’s Ayaka Hamasaki (11-1) ended via split decision. The Japanese fighter, Hamasaki would take the belt from Tiburcio in her first title defense.
