Islam Makhachev vs. Dustin Poirier – Preview and Prediction
Islam Makhachev and Dustin Poirier will meet in the main event of UFC 302 this Saturday night.
For Makhachev, he’ll look to make his third title defense and beating Alexander Volkanovski in back-to-back fights.
Meanwhile, this maybe the last time we see Poirier inside of the octagon as win or lose he may retire.
Here’s a breakdown of the UFC 302 main event. The preview and prediction and also been seen in the video above.
Islam Makhachev
Makhachev enters UFC 302 as dominate champion.
There isn’t anyone who appears to be a favorite when they step foot inside of the cage with the Russian.
Of course, just like his cousin and teammate Khabib Nurmagomedov, Makhachev is know for his dominate wrestling, ground-and-pound and submission.
Don’t sleep on Makhachev’s standup game. It’s not as strong as Poirier’s, but its pretty damn good. He rocked Charles Oliveira on the feet, out struck Volkanovski in a decision win and then knocked Volkanovski out in their rematch
Dustin Poirier
Who doesn’t like an underdog story.
This is likely Poirier’s last chance at UFC gold and he’s coming into this fight to lay it all on the line.
Poirier is considered by many as the best boxer in the UFC. Luckily for him, every round starts on the feet.
Big question is going to be how does Poirier handle the big grappling advantage of Makhachev?
Let’s not forget, Nurmagomedov and Oliveira both gave Poirier huge problems in their fights with him when it came to the wrestling and grappling departments. A big adjustment will have to be made in this one.
Oddsmakers
The love Makhachev. He’s a huge favorite. If you really believe Poirier can knock him out you may want to throw some bucks on him, because you’ll get paid if you’re right.
Prediction
I would be surprised at all if Poirier knocks out Makhachev and finally gets his moment.
Do I think it happens? No, probably not.
After what happened to Poirier in the Nurmagomedov and Oliveira fights, you would have to imagine that Makhachev is going to look to do the same thing.
Prediction: Islam Makhachev defeats Dustin Poirier
