Israel Adesanya admits he has five years or less left to compete in the UFC
Former UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya admitted that he has five years or less left to compete in the UFC.
Adesanya returns to the Octagon in April at UFC 287 when he takes on Alex Pereira in a rematch for the UFC middleweight title, which he lost in an upset defeat back in November at UFC 281. For Adesanya, this rematch against Pereira gives him a chance to get revenge on his longtime kickboxing rival, who holds two previous victories over “The Last Stylebender” in kickboxing and one more in MMA. If Adesanya is victorious, he will reclaim the UFC middleweight championship, one that he defended many times before losing it to Pereira.
While Adesanya is still very much in his athletic prime and is still regarded as one of the top pound-for-pound MMA fighters in the world, he admits that he can see the end of his career on the horizon. Not anytime soon, mind you, but within five years or less Adesanya doesn’t expect to still be in the UFC.
Speaking to reporters at UFC 284 last weekend in Australia, Adesanya explained why he believes he’ll have five years or less left in the UFC.
“I’ve been in the UFC five years, right? If I’m being honest, I’m not gonna be here in five years. I have other things to do in life,” Adesanya said (via MMAjunkie.com). “I love this sh*t and I’m f*cking great at it but I never attach myself to this and I’m gonna leave on top. So yeah, that’s the best way I feel like you should leave. But again, I’ve been here five years in the UFC, it went like that. We’ll see how long I’m here for but I don’t think it’s gonna be five years.”
Do you think Israel Adesanya will fight for five more years in the UFC or do you think he will retire well before those five years are up?
