Israel Adesanya says ‘Jon Jones can try and run to heavyweight, but I’ll hunt him down’
Israel Adesanya has made it clear he wants to fight Jon Jones.
Adesanya and Jones have gone back-and-forth with one another on social media and “The Last Stylebender” said a fight between the two will happen in 2021. Although Jones is a mich bigger man, he doesn’t care about weight and says even if “Bones” goes to heavyweight he will still hunt him down for the fight.
“I saw something on Instagram that by the time he goes to heavyweight the fight will be – who gives a (expletive) about weight?” Adesanya told Submission Radio. (via MMA Junkie). “I’ve never given a (expletive) about weight. Since when? It’s never been an issue for me. I’ve been a heavyweight in boxing, in kickboxing. I’ll do it in again in MMA. So, it’s never been an issue for me. He can try and run to heavyweight, but I’ll chase him down. I’ll hunt him down if I have to.”
Right now, Israel Adesanya is focused on his upcoming title defense against Yoel Romero at UFC 248. He has made it clear he wants to defend the belt a couple of times before he moves up. But he says if Jones could make 185, he would jump the queue and be next in line.
“Yeah, let him go to heavyweight,” Adesanya said. “Right now, I’m working at middleweight. If he wants to come, he can skip the line if he comes down to middleweight. I’ve said that already. But I’m sure he can’t do that because his frame won’t let him. So, let me do my work, shut the (expletive) up, and I’ll come see you when it’s time.”
The fight between the two would no doubt be massive and one that has been brewing for months now. Whether or not it will ever happen is to be seen.
