Gyllenhaal stepped on the scale and displayed a ripped physique in preparation for the planned fight.
While the bout is scripted and obviously a stunt for the film, the actor was paired opposite former UFC fighter Jay Hieron today inside the octagon.
The filming took place in between the early preliminary bouts and the regularly scheduled preliminary fights at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The bout did not air live on TV but was captured by cameras in attendance. The scene also featured UFC cage announcer Bruce Buffer and MMA referee Chris Tognoni.
