Jake Paul secures knockdown in round five, defeats Nate Diaz in 10 round battle

DAZN boxing returned to us tonight, August 5, 2023, for a very intriguing 185 lb clash between celebrity boxing sensation Jake Paul and UFC legend Nate Diaz.

Paul was coming off the very first defeat of his career going into tonight’s main event, while Diaz finally made his professional boxing debut, something he’d wanted to do, and something we’d all wanted to see him do for some time now.

Ever since Diaz handily out-boxed Marcus Davis in 2010 that he had incredible hands. Davis is a 17-1-2 professional boxer that had a 9-3 record inside the promotion at the time, and he’s a legend of the promotion in his own right.

Then we had his opponent Jake Paul, a 6-1 professional boxer with wins over former MMA world champions Ben Askren (KO), Tyron Woodley (SD, KO), and Anderson Silva (UD), with his lone defeat coming to Tommy Fury (SD).

Official Result: Jake Paul def. Nate Diaz via unanimous decision (97-92, 98-91, 98-91)

Rounds 1 and 2

Paul rocks and wobbles Diaz badly in the opening round, landing a series of hard combinations going to both the body and head. Diaz rebounds with a better second, piecing together some combinations of his own.

Rounds 3 and 4

Paul lands two right uppercuts and a hard overhand right in the third, though Diaz continued to land his own. Diaz begins to overwhelm Paul toward the end of round four, landing punches in bunches at will.

Rounds 5 and 6

Paul starts to land body shots early on in round five, and eventually knocks Diaz down with a vicious left hook. Diaz gets right back to his feet, but continues eating shots until the bell sounds. Paul picks up in round six where he left off the fifth, but Diaz is able to regain his composure and even it out by its end.

Rounds 7, 8, and 9

After a back and forth round seven, Diaz out-strikes Paul 26-17 in round eight, and continues to pour on the pressure through round nine though Paul holds his own.

Round 10

Diaz has a strong tenth and final round as well; Paul landed some hard shots early, though Diaz remained unfazed and walked him down for the final minute. Paul winning this fight isn’t at all controversial, but one could say those scorecards didn’t exactly tell the story of this fight.

Diaz performed well, but Paul was clearly the more powerful party of the two and it showed; Diaz didn’t possess the power to really hurt Paul, while Paul hurt Diaz on a number of occasions. He also kept up with Diaz in the cardio department in the first 10 round fight of his career, which many of us didn’t expect him to be capable of.

Nonetheless, Jake Paul gets back to his winning ways tonight with this victory over Nate Diaz, improving his professional record to 7-1.

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
