Jamaine Ortiz Remains Unbeaten with Dominant Victory – ShoBox: The New Generation – Highlights, Results

ShoBox: The New Generation – Friday, February 18

In the main event of Friday’s ‘ShoBox: The New Generation’ fight card, Jamaine Ortiz managed to remain undefeated with a ten round unanimous decision victory. Squaring off with Ortiz for the vacant NABF lightweight title was Nahir “Woo” Albright, who came into this match as the slight underdog with a record of 14 wins and only 1 loss. The action went down from the Caribe Royale Resort in Orlando, and fans witnessed some great Friday night fights!

With over 75 alumni becoming world champions, ‘ShoBox’ serves as the biggest and best stage for top boxing prospects interested in making a name for themselves. Hosting this competitive evening of fights was Brian Campbell of the ‘Morning Kombat’ podcast, alongside Barry Tompkins and Raul Marquez. Campbell began providing expert commentary for these high-level events on Showtime back in January.

Jamaine “The Technician” Ortiz

Coming off the heels of a highly competitive majority draw versus Joseph Adorno in April 2021, Jamaine Ortiz was looking to continue his unbeaten ways in the 135-pound division. Previously, he managed to win every bout he was a part of, while recording 8 knockouts. Moreover, Jamaine last fought for a belt on the undercard of Triller’s exhibition match between legends Roy Jones Jr. and Mike Tyson. Through this encounter, Ortiz secured the WBC UNBC silver lightweight title over Sulaiman Segwa by way of a debilitating body shot in the 7th round.

Nahir “Woo” Albright

Ready to take on the challenge of the undefeated Jamaine Ortiz, was Nahir Albright of Sicklerville, New Jersey. Nahir made his most recent appearance on a separate Triller produced event, ‘Verz II’. In this showing, Nahir dominated Michael Dutchover, who was 15-1 at the time, forcing him to retire from the match prior to the 7th round. Friday night being his first appearance on Showtime, Albright harbored intentions of using this match to launch himself into the conversation of world title contention, in pursuance of leaving his mark on boxing’s lightweight division.

ShoBox 135-pound Main Event – NABF Lightweight Title

Throughout the course of the first half of the fight, Jamaine Ortiz was clearly the faster and more powerful fighter. While controlling the pace, Ortiz strategically pumped the jab to close the distance and land crisp combination punches. By the time the bell sounded to end the fifth round, Jamaine was comfortably ahead on the judges’ scorecards due to the combinations he was able to place, while Albright mostly only landed single shots. Furthermore, Ortiz found success by using his elusive footwork and superior head movement to evade the power punches from Albright and counter with stiff blows of his own.

By the sixth round, the frustration of Albright was starting to become evident. He began fighting more aggressively while moving forward without much caution, and as a result ate some hard punches in an effort to find an opening and catch Ortiz off guard. Ultimately, this effort was futile as Ortiz continued to land his jab at will and bait Albright into the pocket to throw, then follow with uppercuts that bordered on technical perfection.

In the end, Jamaine “The Technician” Ortiz was able to walk away with the obvious unanimous decision and secure the NABF lightweight title. While there is still a good amount of ground to cover before Ortiz gets his shot at a world title, this match showcased the young prospect’s aptitude to vastly outscore his opponent in a ten-round bout. Additionally, Jamaine’s ability to set traps late in the fight and expose the desperation of Albright was certainly on a level that could be compared to any of the greats in the 135-pound division.
