Jan Blachowicz impressed with Jiri Prochazka’s “weird style,” but believes he would beat him
UFC light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz says he is impressed with Jiri Prochazka’s style but believes he would defeat him.
Blachowicz is coming off of a unanimous decision win over UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya in his last outing at UFC 259 and he will take on No. 1 contender Glover Teixeira later this year in the main event of UFC 266 in September. The winner of the Blachowicz vs. Teixeira bout is expected to take on rising star Jiri Prochazka for the title sometime next year. Prochazka has won back-to-back fights over Dominick Reyes and Volkan Oezdemir to kick off his UFC career, and company president Dana White has already said that “Denisa” is next in line for the title.
Speaking to James Lynch, Blachowicz spoke about how a potential matchup with Prochazka would go. According to the Pole, although he has been impressed by what Prochazka has done inside the Octagon so far, he believes it’s a good matchup stylistically for him. Coming off of a big win over the previously undefeated Adesanya, Blachowicz’s confidence is at an all-time high, and even though Prochazka has a crazy fight style, the champ thinks it works in his favor.
“Yeah, it was an impressive fight. He’s got this weird style, but in a good way weird — it’s working. But if in the future I will fight against Jiri, I know how to fight against fighters like him. For me, it would be a good opponent. Good for me because stylistically I know how to fight against fighters like him. I just show the world how to beat crazy fighters,” Blachowicz said.
It’s worth noting Prochazka has been called out by Aleksandar Rakic for a potential No. 1 contender fight at 205lbs, but he has said he is holding out hope for a title shot as White said he’d give him.
Who do you think would win a future UFC light heavyweight title bout between champion Jan Blachowicz and challenger Jiri Prochazka?
