Jared Cannonier praises “resilient” Marvin Vettori ahead of upcoming UFC fight
UFC middleweight contender Jared Cannonier praised the “resilient” Marvin Vettori ahead of their upcoming fight inside the Octagon.
Cannonier and Vettori meet in the main event of the UFC Fight Night card taking place on June 17 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada. It’s a big fight for the middleweight division as both Cannonier and Vettori are ranked in the top-five of their weight class, so this is clearly a very important bout.
Ahead of their fight, Cannonier spoke to The Schmo and he was asked about his next opponent. Instead of talking trash, “The Killa Gorilla” praised his opponent for being durable and tough.
“Well, Marvin is resilient. He’s always ever-present in the fight. He doesn’t take time off. He doesn’t get tired. So, on top of that, he’s hard to finish. Resilient, right? So, he has that perseverance in him, too. If he sees an opening, he’s definitely going to try to jump through it with both fist and feet and all that good stuff. But I’ve prepared to fight the best in the world, and I’m ready for whatever he’s going to bring,” Cannonier said (via MMAjunkie.com).
As for what’s next should he get past Vettori next month, Cannonier said that he is hoping to get another title shot. However, he would also be willing to fight another top contender such as the loser of the upcoming middleweight title eliminator bout between Robert Whittaker and Dricus Du Plessis.
“It’s slim pickings here at the top. So, if I don’t get the next title shot, if I have to fight somebody before I get the title shot, then it will probably have to be the loser of the title fight or that contenders match that’s happening in July,” Cannonier said.
