Jena Bishop excited to stay active, believes fight against Taila Santos is a Finals matchup

When she started her mixed martial arts career, Jena Bishop wanted to stay as active as possible while showing that she belongs among the best in the world in her division. Having started her career in 2021, Bishop is currently 7-0 and has a fight with former UFC title challenger Taila Santos in the second round of the 2024 PFL women’s flyweight regular season.

Speaking to the media ahead of her fight against Santos, Bishop, who has six points following her first-round submission victory in the first round of the season, said she is incredibly happy with the level of activity she’s having in 2024. After waiting 8 months in between fights in 2023, Bishop joined the PFL in 2024 and as part of being in the women’s flyweight tournament, she’ll have her second fight in just a matter of two months, the type of activity she was looking for in her career.

“It’s nice to not have to sit around and wait and see what’s next and just stay busy, stay training, because that’s all I do. Nothing has really changed for me. I’m just happy I get to keep fighting.”

With a three-way tie atop the flyweight tournament between Bishop, Santos, and Dakota Ditcheva, there were plenty of intriguing matchups to make, and Bishop believes her fight against Santos is one that should be viewed as a championship finals fight.

“I think it’s a great matchup with somebody that I’ve said a couple times, this should be the finals of the whole thing [tournament] but we get to do it a little early. I don’t know, maybe again at some point. I’m excited to prove myself, it’s what I’ve been aiming to do this whole time, since I started in MMA, fight the best people and prove that I’m the best.”

Jena Bishop will have the opportunity to prove her place in the women’s flyweight division and in the PFL when she takes on the veteran Santos at PFL 4 on Thursday, June 13.

Fans can watch PFL 4 live from the Mohegan Sun Arena on ESPN+ starting at 5:30pm ET.
