‘Jersey Devil’ Nick Catone gets call to help train Hendo prepare for Mousasi
Dan ‘Hendo’ Henderson is without question a future Hall of Famer; a champion in two divisions, a pioneer and legend in the sport of MMA but his next fight might decide the 44-year old fighter’s future. That is why he is calling in a favor from a friend.
Hendo has reached out to the Jersey Devil, Nick Catone for some help.
Catone posted to Facebook today “It’s an honor to be asked by @dhendomma one of the legends of the sport that I grew up watching, to fly out to California to help him get ready for his next fight against Gegard Mousasi on Jan 24th. #danhenderson #ufc #mma #ncmma #California #westcoast”
Catone later told MyMMANews.com that Hendo texted him last week and that he will be heading to Hendo’s training camp after holidays, Sunday Jan. 4 – until Saturday the 10th.
“Whatever he needs, I’ll be there to help,” Catone said.
Catone was inducted into the New Jersey Mixed Martial Arts Hall of Fame at a ceremony last weekend. He runs Nick Catone MMA and Fitness in Brick, New Jersey.
Hendo and Catone are no strangers to one another as Hendo was brought in to Catone’s academy earlier this summer for a training seminar and autograph signing hosted by MMA Signatures. The Jersey Devil has not fought since his win over Tom Watson at UFC 169 in February of this year. He has been plagued by some nagging injuries but tells us that he is healing up fine and looking to stepping back into the cage.
Henderson hold a 30-12 record with his last fight being a loss to the number one contender to the light heavyweight title, Daniel Cormier. Hendo has dropped four of his last five fights.
Mousasi, (35-5-2) has dropped two of his last three, most recently to Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza.
