Jessica Eye next in line for UFC flyweight title shot
It looks as if an opponent has been identified for Valentina Shevchenko’s first UFC flyweight title defense.
The newly crowned 125-pound champion will meet number one contender Jessica Eye at a date yet to be determined.
The official announcement came from UFC President Dana White yesterday at the UFC on ESPN+ 1 post-fight press conference.
Eye (14-6) is riding a three-fight win streak at flyweight after making the transition from bantamweight. It was there at 135-pounds that “Evil” Eye ran into a rough patch, dropping four straight fights. Do not let the losses cloud your judgment however as Eye has never been finished in her UFC career. All four losses were by way of decision to top contenders to include former champion Miesha Tate, Julianna Pena, Bethe Correia, and Sara McMann.
Since moving to 125-pounds, Eye has racked up victories over Katlyn Chookagian, Jessica Rose-Clark, and Kalindra Faria.
Shevchenko (16-3) claimed the vacant title in a unanimous decision victory over Joanna Jędrzejczyk at UFC 231 in December 2018.
