Jiri Prochazka says UFC 275 submission win over Glover Teixeira was a ‘horrible performance’
Jiri Prochazka was not happy with his title fight win over Glover Teixeira.
Prochazka was looking to become a UFC champion in just his third fight in the promotion as he headlined UFC 275 against Teixeira for the light heavyweight title in Singapore. It was an intriguing matchup and it was a back-and-forth fight but it was clear the champ was controlling the fight, but with just 28 seconds left, Prochazka submitted Teixeira to become the champ but he was not happy with his performance.
“From my side it was a horrible fight, horrible performance,” Prochazka said after UFC 275. “Honestly. You saw that fight. I just survived some moments. It’s my plan to be dominant and not just to be a survivor in there. For you it’s beautiful because you like to be entertained, but for a fighter, I like to fight clean.”
According to Jiri Prochazka, he says he was lazy in setting up his striking and he knows what he did wrong so he will spend the next few weeks working and improving his game.
“I was a little bit lazy to set up some situations and to prepare him for the knockout, to watch in the striking,” Prochazka said. “To see him, to see the moments, to see the right place, and catch it. That was my laziness in the fight. He didn’t surprise me with nothing. We knew all these things, and he was successful in there. So I have to work on that. Not just work on the training, but work on myself to stop doing things. I know where is the mistakes in my preparation, in my life, and what I have to change for the fight.”
The hope for Prochazka is he can defend his belt later this year, likely against Jan Blachowicz. But, for now, he will need to heal from the injuries he sustained in the fight against Teixeira.
