Joe Solecki discusses his win at UFC Vegas 70
Joe Solecki had a few changes ahead of UFC Vegas 70.
Originally, Solecki was scheduled to fight Benoit Saint-Denis at UFC Vegas 69, which was one week prior to UFC Vegas 70.
Saint-Denis announced on social media that he pulled out of the fight, but the UFC didn’t reach out to Solecki or his management about anything related to the withdrawal or their future plans for Solecki.
As Solecki was getting ready to fly out to Las Vegas without an opponent, the UFC would reach out the night before the flight with a whole new plan.
They asked if Solecki could fight Carl Deaton one week later and Solecki talked to his coaches and management and he accepted.
Finally fight night would roll around and the one week was worth the wait for Solecki as he had a great performance.
He dominated the first round and nearly had a finish on a few occasions and then in the second round, he once again dominated, but this time got the submission win and his performance was so good that the UFC gave him an extra 50 thousand dollar for a performance of the night bonus.
While the extra money was great, the highlight of Solecki’s night was following the win when he was inside of the octagon and looked into the crowd to see his pregnant wife smiling and cheering him on.
Now back home in North Carolina, Solecki once again spoke with MyMMANewws to discuss his win, his future plans and how his teammate, former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman has been looking ahead of his return.
