John Caldone seeks champ-champ status at ROC 83
Louis Neglia Jr and Frankie Perez’s Dead Serious Promotions are pillars in the MMA community. Their consistency in providing a high-level forum for mixed martial artists to perform and entertaining fights for the fans just keeps getting better.
Ring of Combat will host their first of four 2024 events on Friday evening, March 1, at their usual home inside the Showroom at the Tropicana Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, NJ.
ROC 83
Lou and Frankie are not messing around with their first fight card of the year. There are 3 championship fights and a super-fight which could be a title elimination fight. I would bet money that there are multiple fighters entering the cage this night, that will be making that walk to the UFC”s Octagon in the near future. At their last event, ROC 82, John “the Don” Caldone finished the evening in spectacular fashion with the knockout to win the ROC Lightweight championship. He then proceeded to tell myself and everyone watching that he wanted drop to 145 lbs and be the champ in both weight classes. The powers to be agreed and here we are.
Interview with John Caldone below:
Champ-Champ
The Don has fought at 145 for most of his career and is accustomed to the weight cut. His opponent may not be. Roman Kurishvili, out of the Republic of Georgia, has fought exclusively at lightweight. Kurishvili has six career wins all by finish. All four of his losses have been by decision. We shall see if Long Island MMA’s Caldone, can change that and become a champ/champ. John is 6-1 with 5 straight wins and several have been highlight reel worthy. I’ve been cage-side for every one of his professional fights and I can tell you that he is fun to watch. Very unpredictable and has a big heart to go with that work ethic. Roman will have his work cut out for him.
MyMMANews
We chatted with John “the Don” Caldone as fight week has arrived. John was relaxed and was very respectful of Roman Kurishvili. He says…
“Roman is a worthy opponent. I’ve had some tough cuts to 145 so I know how that is. He looks a little bigger than me height wise. We will see how he comes down to 45. See if it goes smooth for him. Anybody who gets in that cage, you have my respect. I can’t wait to share the cage.”

I will be at the commentary table along with Professor Jay Regalbuto, and former UFC stand-out Ragin’ Al Iaquinta and handling the pre-fight show and post-fight interviews as well. MyMMANews will have some pre-fight interviews in the coming weeks as well as a full recap with official results.
