John Dodson faces fellow UFC veteran Ryan Benoit at BKFC 28

Bare Knuckle fighting has grown immensely over the last four years since it finally came over to the states, primarily Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship, or better known as BKFC.

They’ve done a great job of signing a number of mixed martial arts legends, and they also have a lot of solid homegrown talents.

BKFC recently signed John Dodson and Ryan Benoit, both of which are UFC veterans, and they’ve matched them up together for a BKFC 28 co-main event showdown.

BKFC 28 is to go down on August 27, 2022, live from the Rio Rancho Events Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

John Dodson fought for the UFC flyweight championship on two separate occasions, losing to perhaps the greatest to ever do it, Demetrious Johnson in those encounters. Those were the promotional defeats he ever had at 125 lbs.

Once Dodson was released from his contract with the UFC, he tried his hand with free agency, only to realize most bigger MMA promotions do not have a flyweight division.

So, he signed with XMMA and competed in their bantamweight division, going 1-1, losing to Cody Gibson, and defeating Francisco Rivera, both of which are fellow UFC veterans.

Following this stint, Dodson decided BKFC would be a good bet for him to rack up more knockouts to his resume, and he may be right. He’s a very hard-hitting talent that primarily boxes anyway, and with his power and speed, Bare Knuckle may have been the best move for him.

Ryan Benoit on the other hand wasn’t quite as successful in the sport of mixed martial arts, but out of his ten professional wins, eight come via knockout.

One of those knockouts came in the second round to current Bellator bantamweight champion Sergio Pettis. Some wins really age well. As elite of a striker as both Pettis brothers are, that tells you right there that Benoit is a dangerous fighter.

To this day he’s the only man to ever finish Sergio Pettis with strikes.

How do you see this flyweight co-main event going at BKFC 28?

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
