John McCarthy claims Usman would get “lit up” by Nick Diaz

Has John McCarthy lost his mind?

In the most recent episode of the WEIGHING IN podcast featuring John McCarthy and Josh Thomson, the two discussed a potential matchup between Nick Diaz and UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman.

McCarthy states that one thing to know about Diaz is that “he’s gonna come and give you everything that he’s got.”

“Would I mind seeing him against Kamaru? No, I wouldn’t,” McCarthy continues.

“Kamaru would stand with him until he started getting lit up and then he’s gonna go use his wrestling.”

“I don’t think that Kamaru would end up standing up with Nick, that long, that much out of the first round, things would start to become difficult.”

McCarthy’s take on the potential bout comes following Diaz’s TMZ interview where he said that he is eyeing a title fight with Usman.

In their respective recent outings, Diaz returned after a six-and-a-half-year layoff at UFC 266 where he suffered a defeat to Robbie Lawler. Usman, on the other hand, defeated Colby Covington via unanimous decision at UFC 268. Prior to that, Usman had stopped Gilbert Burns and Jorge Masvidal by knockout.

Diaz (26-10-0, 2 NC), who is known for his slick boxing, holds 13 wins by way of knockout while Usman (20-1-0), has recently proved to be rapidly improving his boxing skills, and holds 9 wins by knockout.

So, the question is; if these two were to square off, how would you see it going down?
