Johny Hendricks moves to 185 pounds, faces Hector Lombard
Former UFC welterweight champion Johny Hendricks is making an unexpected move to 185 pounds where he will face one of his toughest opponents to date in Hector Lombard.
Hendricks has had multiple weight cutting issues, most recently at UFC 207 when he fought Neil Magny and dropped a controversial unanimous decision. The move to middleweight should have likely come a while ago due to the weight cutting issues, but what is in question here are Hendricks motives.
Before the Magny fight the former champion said he would retire if he did lose the fight…. which on paper he did. It was Hendricks’ third loss in a row.
Lombard also lost a fight to Magny, followed by a knockout loss to Dan Henderson in June 2016. It is possible that the loser of this fight gets cut from the UFC, but that will be determined after the fight.
The Hendricks-Lombard bout will take place at UFC Fight Night 105 at the Scotiabank Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, on February 19.
The card was initially expected to be headlined by a heavyweight rematch between Junior dos Santos and Stefan Struve however, Struve withdrew from the contest due to injury.
