Jon Jones is “looking scary” in the gym as a heavyweight, says longtime teammate
Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones is “looking scary” in the gym, says his longtime teammate Devin Clark.
Jones and Clark have been teammates for years at Team Jackson – Wink in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and both men have spent plenty of time on the mats training together as fellow UFC light heavyweight fighters. Speaking to MMA reporter James Lynch in a recent interview, Clark was asked about how Jones is looking in the gym now that he is moving up to heavyweight. According to Clark, Jones is looking phenomenal in the gym, going so far as to call him “scary” at his new weight.
“He’s looking scary,” Clark said. “I saw him the other day for the first time in some months and damn, okay. He’s taking it seriously, he’s going up to heavyweight. He’s doing it the right way. He’s changing, he’s changing into that heavyweight, he’s morphing. He’s looking really good, he’s staying on top of things. It will be interesting to see what he can do as a heavyweight once they figure all that out (with his contract).”
As for how Clark feels Jones will fare at heavyweight, his training partner believes he will do well for several reasons, but mainly because Jones has the fight IQ needed to make adjustments.
“I think he’ll do great, and I think a lot of people know that he will, too. Just the skillset that he has, just the mentality that he has in the cage. He knows how to adjust really well, and that’s one thing that will carry over into heavyweight, I’m sure of. A lot of heavyweight guys can’t handle that. So I think he’ll do really good,” Clark said.
Do you agree with Devin Clark that Jon Jones is going to have a successful transition to the UFC heavyweight division?
