Jon Jones on UFC Light Heavyweight Title: “I still consider myself the champ, with or without the belt”
It’s still fairly agreeable despite any of his legal trouble in recent years, that Jon Jones can to some extent still be considered the undisputed UFC Light Heavyweight Champion. Only problem is, because of his rugged past, that honor will be sadly forgotten.
With all that being said, there’s no denying when you look at the record books you have no choice but to recognize Jones accomplishments and feats in terms of wins, title defenses, and the length of his reign, you can say his image may have been taken away, but the one thing that can’t be took, is what he’s done in the sport of MMA, just look at his résumé.
For Jon “Bones” Jones, it is with this success why he still considers himself STILL, the undisputed UFC Light Heavyweight Champion even though he no longer holds the belt and isn’t ashamed to let the world know as evidenced by a tweet he posted expressing that claim.
“Thanks brother, yeah I know I don’t need to hold that belt to be the champion,” Jones said in response to a fan on Twitter on Wednesday afternoon. [I’m] sure the whole [light heavyweight] top five knows that too.”
Jones elaborated on the sentiment even more in another tweet but quickly deleted it.
“I don’t need the physical belt or even to be in the rankings to know that I am the champion,” Jones said in this deleted Tweet. “It’s something I feel in my heart. I know what I’ve done. I know what I’m going to do.”
When do you think we’ll see Jon Jones in the UFC?
