Jon Jones vs Stipe Miocic officially booked for UFC 309 at MSG
Jon Jones vs Stipe Miocic official for UFC 309
The Ultimate Fighting Championship has finally booked the return of former UFC light-heavyweight and current UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones, who is scheduled to face former two-time UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic this fall at UFC 309.
UFC 309 is to go down on November 16, 2024, live from Madison Square Garden in New York City.
These two were originally slated to face one another at the last MSG card, UFC 295, last year in November. However, Jones suffered a pectoral tear in the lead up and was forced from the bout courtesy of the injury.
The UFC then booked an interim heavyweight title clash between top heavyweight contenders Tom Aspinall and Sergei Pavlovich, Aspinall of which won the bout via KO in just 69 seconds, emphatically stopping the man that came in on a six-fight first round knockout streak.
The Englishman has since defended that interim title against Curtis Blaydes in July at UFC 304, knocking Blaydes out in 60 seconds and avenging the only defeat of his UFC career.
Aspinall’s claim of the interim title, and especially his title defense, along with the fact Jones hasn’t fought in well over a year, many fans believe Aspinall should’ve been promoted to undisputed champion.
Jones hasn’t fought since his heavyweight debut in March of 2023 at UFC 285, where it took him just two minutes to submit former interim champion Ciryl Gane and become a two-division world champion. He has teased that he’d be facing Miocic in November at MSG for a good portion of this year, but it’s relieving to see it’s actually booked for that event and the wait is nearly over.
Miocic hasn’t fought since losing the title to former and lineal UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou back in March of 2021.
One can only hope the winner of this fight sticks around and attempts to unify the titles with Aspinall.
