Jose Aldo admits he’s open to boxing, but confirms he can’t fight MMA outside of the UFC

UFC legend Jose Aldo admitted that he’s open to boxing, but confirmed that he can’t fight in MMA outside of the UFC.

After over a decade of fighting for the UFC, Aldo recently announced his retirement from MMA. As part of his retirement announcement, it’s been said that Aldo can pursue boxing, which he has long admitted has been a dream for him. Speaking to Globo Esporte in a recent interview, Aldo confirmed that his deal with the UFC gives him the opportunity to box, although right now he wants to spend time with his family.

“Boxing is a possibility. It’s always been a big wish I’ve had in my life, I’ve never hidden it from anyone. It was always a dream. But let’s see. Everyone says I’m still young, I’m a few years old. First now, the arrival of the son, I want to enjoy the family, and then I think about the professional side,” Aldo said.

While Aldo has been called out by fighters such as Bellator’s Patricio Pitbull, the Brazilian legend confirmed that he can’t fight with other MMA promotions because he still has a contract with the UFC. Although Aldo and the UFC have agreed for him to retire from MMA and have allowed him to pursue a boxing match, he doesn’t have the same opportunity in his revised deal to fight for other MMA promotions.

“I have a perspective already, I’m training a lot. I’m trying to see the best path I’m going to take now. It’s true that I’m not going to fight MMA, I thank everyone who called from the other events, but I didn’t leave the UFC, I still have a contract with them. I’ll see where I fit in,” Aldo said.

Do you think Jose Aldo will do well in boxing if he decides to go down that path?
