Joseph Benavidez believes former rival Henry Cejudo will fight again
UFC flyweight Joseph Benavidez believes that his former rival Henry Cejudo will come out of retirement and step back into the Octagon in 2021.
Benavidez and Cejudo were the coaches on the 24th season of “The Ultimate Fighter.” They then met inside the Octagon at the TUF 24 Finale in December 2016, with Benavidez winning a split decision win in a fight that saw Cejudo lose points for low blows. While the two were once fierce rivals, Cejudo is now retired from mixed martial arts while Benavidez is at the crossroads of his career. Yet, they will always have a connection to each other.
Speaking to Line Movement’s James Lynch, Benavidez was asked about his former rival Cejudo and whether or not he believes we could see the return of “Triple C.” Check out what Benavidez said in the interview below.

“I think he wants to fight again. I mean he’s still young, has a lot probably left in him, you know? Doesn’t have a ton of mileage on him as a fighter even though, you know, he grinded in wrestling for so long. You know, there’s still money to be made, he still has a name. I don’t think he has a girlfriend anymore, so maybe it leaves him some free time to get back in the fight. I know he’s training. He’s a natural competitor. So I’d love to see him back,” Benavidez said.
Cejudo retired on top of the sport after knocking out Dominick Cruz at UFC 249. He’s still only 33 years old, so a return makes a lot of sense. If Cejudo does come back, he will likely aim high and shoot for big fights against the likes of Alexander Volkanovski, Deiveson Figueiredo, and Jose Aldo. Just don’t expect a rematch with Benavidez, even though Cejudo has said in the past he wants that. Benavidez, meanwhile, fights Askar Askarov at UFC 259.
