Josh Emmett flattens Bryce Mitchell with vicious KO at UFC 296
The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to us tonight, December 16, 2023, for UFC 296, the final event of the year going down live from the T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada.
Headlining the event is a welterweight title bout between UFC welterweight champion Leon Edwards (21-3) and no. 3 ranked former interim champion Colby Covington (17-3).
Co-headlining the event is also a title bout, this one coming at 125 lbs between UFC flyweight champion Alexandre Pantoja (26-5) and no. 2 ranked Brandon Royval (15-6).
Opening up the main card tonight was a featherweight scrap between no. 6 ranked Josh Emmett (19-4) and no. 10 ranked Bryce Mitchell (16-2).
Emmett, following a five-fight win streak from 2019 to 2022 that saw him challenge for interim gold, came into the bout on a two-fight skid with defeats coming to Yair Rodriguez and Ilia Topuria.
Mitchell on the other hand suffered the first official defeat of his career to Topuria 371 days ago himself, before rebounding with a unanimous decision over Dan Ige in September.

Official Result: Josh Emmett def. Bryce Mitchell via KO (punch) at 1:57 of round one
Mitchell takes the center of the octagon once the bout begins, evading Emmett’s strikes early on through the opening 90 or so seconds. However, Emmett lands a thunderous right hand from hell just under two minutes in that immediately stiffens Mitchell.
