Journey Newsom vs. Randy Costa pegged for UFC’s event on Sept. 26
A bantamweight affair between Randy Costa and Journey Newsom is slated for the Sept. 26 UFC event.
Costa was originally scheduled to fight Martin Day at UFC on ESPN 8 in March. The event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Randy Costa is coming off his first-career win inside the octagon. The 26-year-old beat Boston Salmon via first-round knockout at UFC on ESPN 6 this past October. It came after dropping a second-round submission loss to Brandon Davis back in April 2019.
Journey Newsom has a 38-second knockout against Domingo Pilarte was later ruled a no contest by The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation after the 31-year-old tested positive for marijuana. It was his first fight of the new year, taking place at UFC 247 on Feb. 8.
Newsom made his UFC debut on short notice, losing by unanimous decision to Ricardo Ramos at UFC on ESPN 3 in June 2019.
Journey Newsom capitalizing
While Newsom was punished for a drug test, he’s likely looking to capitalize on the momentum of a quick knockout. He’s got power in his hands and looks to do the same against Costa.
