Julian Marquez releases statement following withdrawal from UFC Vegas 40
UFC middleweight contender Julian Marquez released a statement following his withdrawal from his UFC Vegas 40 fight against Jordan Wright.
Marquez and Wright were slated to kick off the main card at today’s UFC Vegas 40 event. However, Marquez was pulled from the card during Friday’s weigh-ins due to a “non-COVID related health issue.” That means that Wright, who successfully weighed in on Friday, is also off of the card now, meaning that UFC Vegas 40 is now down to 10 fights.
After being pulled from the card, Marquez took to his social media to release a statement explaining what happened. Although he could not get into details, Marquez said that he was dealing with health issues and his coaches, including UFC welterweight James Krause, decided that it would be best to pull him.
Some days just aren’t your day. Had some medical complications and my coaches decided it would be best to pull me from the fight. Id like to greatly apologize to @ninjordomma and his team for our unprofessionalism. I was really looking forward to a great fight against a great team but sometimes things don’t go as planned. I’m going to spend the weekend to recover and get back to making sure this never happens again. Thank you everyone for the support! We’ll be back.
It’s unknown exactly what sort of health issues Marquez was experiencing, though it is worth noting he is one of the bigger middleweights in the UFC and has a fairly sizable weight cut to make 185lbs. That being said, the good news is that nothing serious happened and Marquez should be able to make a speedy recovery in short order. “The Cuban Missle Crisis” was heavily favored to defeat Wright in this matchup, and it will be interesting to see if the UFC decides to re-book it or find new opponents for them.
We here at MyMMANews.com wish Julian Marquez a speedy recovery.
