Junior dos Santos want title shot with win on Saturday
Junior dos Santos is the former UFC heavyweight champion. Now, he is looking to reclaim his belt in the near future.
The Brazilian is riding a two-fight winning streak. He is coming off of wins over Blagoy Ivanov and Tai Tuivasa heading into this weekend’s main event fight against Derrick Lewis. ‘The Black Beast’ is no doubt a tough opponent and possess serious knockout power. As well, he is truly never out of a fight, which was evident in his UFC 229 win over Alexander Volkov.
However, dos Santos doesn’t think Lewis is that good. He believes Lewis has many holes in his game that dos Santos can exploit.
“He’s very strong, he has amazing knockout power. Technically, though, he is not that much, He makes mistakes in some areas. You need to be very careful, all the time. He likes to talk too much, he’s a controversial guy. No matter what he has to say, though, he’s about to taste some of this.” dos Santos said to Combate while pointing to his closed fist.
If dos Santos can indeed do that, he is no doubt a top contender in the heavyweight division. But, with Brock Lesnar waiting in the wings and Stipe Miocic hoping to fight for the title soon, the shot may not be next. However, dos Santos strongly disagrees with that. Rather, he thinks with a win over Lewis he deserves the next shot at the title. And, is ready to win his title back.
“I’m already qualified to fight for the belt, I just need to beat whoever is ahead of me in the rankings. With one or two more wins, I think I should be fighting for the title again. I want to face the best, the best of the best. I think this could be a great opportunity. Lewis is well ranked and a win over him puts me in a good spot.”
