Justin Gaethje responds to Michael Chandler’s call-outs, ‘I’m on vacay’
There is some fire heating up in the UFC lightweight division. The 155-pound division has always been the most trash talking, and exciting section of the organization but this time the talk is coming from two unlikely sources. Earlier in the week, Michael Chandler spoke out candidly about wanting a fight with Justin Gaethje and putting him on blast a bit. Chandler accused Gaethje of ducking him. He said that three or four offers were thrown Gaethje’s way and that there has been no response. This doesn’t sit well with Justin Gaethje, and he let the world know it on Twitter.
@MikeChandlerMMA is talking out of his ass. I was waiting for the bout agreement 3 weeks into camp and wake up to news his daddy Dana gave him the shot. He’s been out of commission since the KO. What am I missing? I’m on vacay and this fucker is slandering my name. 3-4 times? 🤦♂️

“@MikeChandlerMMA is talking out of his a–,” Gaethje wrote. “I was waiting for the bout agreement 3 weeks into camp and wake up to news his daddy Dana gave him the shot. He’s been out of commission since the KO. What am I missing? I’m on vacay and this f–ker is slandering my name. 3-4 times?”
Gaethje is in an odd position in the division. It seemed that he would have been the next man to fight for the title when Khabib Nurmagomedov retired since he was the last to lose to him. However, MMA math is not always easy to figure out. Gaethje was skipped over and the UFC made the fight between Chandler and Charles Oliveira. With Oliveira winning that should have set Gaethje up nicely to swoop in right? Nope. It seems now that Dustin Poirier will have the next honors of fighting for the belt.
This all leaves Gaethje on the outside. Chandler is ranked third right behind Poirier. So if he is looking at the top five that would be Chandler, Beneil Dariush, or Islam Makhachev. Gaethje is an exciting fighter who dominated in another organization before coming to the UFC and losing his first title shot, Chandler is the same. Gaethje’s success in the World Series of Fighting and Chandler’s success in Bellator is a great storyline for the UFc to promote. Fans are interested, Dana White is interested, so maybe both should just sign the papers already.
