Kai Kara-France knocks Steve Erceg out in UFC 305 co-main event

Kai Kara-France impresses at UFC 305

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to us tonight, August 17, 2024, for UFC 305, going down live from the RAC Arena in Perth, Australia.

Headlining the event is a title bout at 185 lbs between UFC middleweight champion between Dricus Du Plessis (21-2) and former two-time UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya (24-3).

Our UFC 305 co-main event of the evening came in the flyweight division between no. 4 ranked former interim title challenger Kai Kara-France (25-11) and no. 7 ranked former undisputed title challenger Steve Erceg (12-3).

Former KOZ flyweight champion Kai Kara-France came into the bout on a two-fight skid, having lost his title bout to former two-time champion Brandon Moreno (TKO), as well as no. 3 ranked Amir Albazi (SD) in a fight many scored for him. He went into his Moreno rematch on a three-fight win streak with wins over Rogerio Bontorin (KO), Cody Garbrandt (KO), and Askar Askarov (UD).

Former EMMA flyweight champion Steve Erceg on the other hand won his first three promotional bouts with victories over David Dvorak (UD), Alessandro Costa (UD), and Matt Schnell (KO) leading into his title fight with current champion Alexandre Pantoja at UFC 301, who defeated him via unanimous decision though many fans and media also scored that one for him.

Official Result: Kai Kara-France def. Steve Erceg via TKO (punches) at 4:04 of round one

Erceg looked very sharp with his striking and foot placement early on as he always does, controlling the center and getting his straight punches going.

Kara-France lunged in for a combination and caught Erceg with a couple punches, though he remained unfazed by them. Until Kara-France did it again that is, landing a nasty overhand left after stepping in on a combination, dropping Erceg with it.

Erceg got back up but got dropped again quickly after, the referee forced to stop the fight as a result.

This was a stellar performance by Kai Kara-France tonight, current champion Alexandre Pantoja couldn’t do that to Steve Erceg.

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
