Kai Kara-France vs. Alex Perez added to UFC 284
An exciting flyweight bout between Kai Kara-France and Alex Perez has been added to the upcoming UFC 284 pay-per-view event.
MMAjunkie.com was the first to report the Kara-France vs. Perez fight, which takes place at UFC 284, which is set for February 11 at RAC Arena in Perth, Australia.
Kara-France (24-10, 1 NC) is the No. 3 ranked flyweight in the UFC. The 29-year-old New Zealand native is 7-3 overall in the UFC. In his last fight, he lost in his bid to become the interim UFC flyweight champion when he suffered a TKO loss to Brandon Moreno. However, it was a competitive bout up until the stoppage and he could get back into title contention with a couple more wins. Prior to the Moreno loss, Kara-France showed that he is one of the best flyweights in the world with his wins over Askar Askarov and Cody Garbrandt. A win over Perez would keep Kara-France at the top of the division going forward.
Perez (24-7) is the No. 5 flyweight in the UFC. The 30-year-old American is 6-3 overall in the UFC, but he is currently struggling as he’s lost his last two fights in a row, albeit against two of the division’s best fighters in Deiveson Figueiredo and Alexandre Pantoja. One of the biggest problems Perez has had is with failed weight cuts, and it’s seen him have several canceled fights over the last few years. Still, when he’s healthy he is one of the best flyweights in the world.
Overall, this should be a very competitive bout between two well-rounded and dangerous flyweights. Since Kara-France is ranked higher up and is coming off of a title fight, he likely will be slightly favored to get his hand raised here, but Perez is certainly capable of winning too.
