Kamaru Usman says Jorge Masvidal “knows he can’t beat me”
Kamaru Usman says Jorge Masvidal knows he has no chance of beating him.
After Usman scored a third-round TKO win over Gilbert Burns at UFC 258 to defend his welterweight title, he called out Masvidal for a rematch. They fought at UFC 251 in July in a fight “Gamebred” took on just six day’s notice. However, for Usman, he believes the only reason Masvidal took the fight was due to the short notice and the built-in excuse. So, for the welterweight champion, he says he wants the rematch on a full camp to finish Gamebred and prove he is better.
“He knows he can’t beat me,” Usman said to ESPN of Masvidal. “There are certain guys you just know, ‘I can’t beat that dude.’ He just doesn’t have the skills to beat me. Now, can a freak accident happen on any given day? Absolutely. But 10 times out of 10, I beat him badly, which is why I looked at him. It’s my show. I pick who I fight. At this point, I just didn’t like all the circumstances I had to deal with going into [the first fight with Masvidal], and it left a sour taste in my mouth. The s— they’ve talked has left a sour taste in my mouth. I need to put him in the ground for good.”
After Usman’s callout, and Masvidal’s interest it appears the rematch will happen next time out. They also seem interested in coaching TUF and Usman says he wants the fight to be in Miami as he believes he is the king of Miami, not Masvidal.
“I run Miami,” Usman said. “Miami is mine. He doesn’t run anything in Miami. You don’t run anything in Miami if you’re getting beat up like that. No city wants a loser. So, yes. He gets to leave his house and fight in my Miami.”
