Katlyn Chookagian vs. Antonina Shevchenko targeted for UFC’s May 30 event
Katlyn Chookagian is taking on a different Shevchenko sister this time around.
After losing to the women’s flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko at UFC 247 in February 2019, “Blonde Fighter” is slated to face Antonina Shevchenko at UFC’s May 30 event.
Before losing to Valentina via third-round TKO, Katlyn Chookagian rattled off two-consecutive victories. She earned a unanimous decision against Jennifer Maia at UFC 244 in November 2019. She also earned another unanimous decision over Joanne Calderwood at UFC 238 in June 2019.
The 31-year-old is the more experienced fighter with six victories in nine UFC appearances. Prior to the UFC, Chookagian held the flyweight and bantamweight titles for the Cage Fury Fighting Championships
Antonina, the older sister of Valentina, is coming off a submission victory against Lucie Pudilova at UFC on ESPN 5 in August 2019. She is currently 2-1 inside the octagon, including a decision win against Ji Yeon Kim.
Antonina earned her UFC contract by finishing Jaimee Nievera via TKO on Dana White’s Contender Series in June 2018.
The May 30 event is scheduled to take place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada according to UFC President Dana White. The promotion is waiting for the Nevada Athletic Commission to approve the return of combat sports in the state.
