Khamzat Chimaev targeted to return at UFC 267 against Li Jingliang
Khamzat Chimaev has his return fight booked.
Chimaev took the UFC by storm in 2020 as he made his debut on Fight Island and finished John Phillips. He fought just 10 days later and earned another finish before having another quick turnaround and having a one-punch KO win over Gerald Meerchaert in just seconds. After that, he was booked to face Leon Edwards several times in December, January, and March but due to COVID-19 complications, he was forced out of the fight. Since then, he has been recovering from the virus but now has his return fight booked.
Octagonbet was the first to report the news that Chimaev will drop back down to welterweight at UFC 267 on October 30 on Fight Island against Li Jingliang. Combate later confirmed the news of the fight booking.
Khamzat Chimaev (9-0), as mentioned is coming off a 17-second KO win over Gerald Meerschaert back in September. He also holds a TKO win over Rhys McKee and a submission win over John Phillips. Prior to signing with the UFC, the Swede fought in Brave CF and finished all his fights, and did beat some notable fighters in the promotion. He’s currently not ranked in the welterweight division.
Li Jingliang (18-6) is currently ranked 12th at welterweight and is coming off an upset KO win over Santiago Ponznibbio back in January on Fight Island. The victory got him back into the win column after he suffered a decision loss to Neil Magny at UFC 248. Before the setback, “The Leech” was on a three-fight winning streak as he earned TKO wins over Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos and David Zawada and a decision victory over Daichi Abe. Inside the Octagon, he holds a 10-4 record and does hold notable wins over Dhiego Lima, Frank Camacho, and Luke Jumeau.
UFC 267 goes down on October 30 and sees Jan Blachowicz defending his light heavyweight title against Glover Teixeira in the main event.
