LFA 97: Jacob Rosales and Jose Martinez – Deep Dive
The orthodox Jacob Rosales and Jose Martinez lock horns at LFA 97: Browne vs. Estrázulas slated for Jan. 15. A definite air of intrigue surrounds this fight since the headliners are fighting for the vacant LFA lightweight title. Considering the momentum behind Martinez (11-4), Rosales (12-6) is going to have to bounce back — in a big way. Despite hanging tough for the five-round war, Rosales lost a decision to LFA LW champion, Bryce Logan. The young Rosales is a testament to the depth of the LFA lightweight division. Growing inside the cage is a double-edged sword though. As a consequence, Rosales has faced adversity but also evolved through time into a complete athlete. Even as an amateur, his ability to press forward and maintain top control implied his high ceiling inside the sport.

The intention of an artist is to paint the canvas in a creative manner. Against Luis Vargus at 559 Fights, Rosales colored the canvas and presented fans with his creation. The grappling back-and-forth showcased Rosales’s ability to control the neck and most notably, keep the fight where he wants it. After reaching out to Rosales, he discussed errors from his last title fight and mentioned what he’s doing now to improve.
In addition, the LFA lightweight was fired up speaking about his camp saying, “this training camp has been a little different and more mental… we’ve fixed our mistakes from the last fight and cleared up all my holes, I’m really excited to go out there and show that I’m not just a fucking killer but a smart one, we’re going in there to break this guy and leave no doubt in anyone’s mind.” The lightweight contender’s upside in 2021 is huge.

Featured in the co-main event, Martinez is riding a three-fight win streak. With a recent decision win over Daryl Wilson at FCF 60, the American Elite MMA product is entering the bout with confidence. Not to mention, prior to that, he scored a first-round knockout against the grappling specialist, Sherwin Price. In the co-main event at LFA 97, stacked with title implications, Jacob Rosales and Jose Martinez will go to war to further themselves in an uncertain world. Overall, with few organizations able to operate under the burden of the pandemic, LFA is doing a great job in getting fighters back to where they belong– inside the cage.
