Bellator returns for its first event of 2021 on Friday night with Bellator 255 from the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Conn.
The main event features the return of the company’s top pound-for-pound fighter as champ champ Patricio “Pitbull” Freire squares off against Emmanuel Sanchez in the semi-finals of the featherweight grand prix, with the 145-pound title on the line also. Not the first time the pair have met, Freire and Sanchez first squared off at Bellator 209 in November 2018, with “Pitbull” winning by unanimous decision to retain his championship. The winner earns the right to face the currently-undefeated A.J. McKee in the final.
The co-headliner is a lightweight contest between undefeated Dagestani fighter Usman Nurmagomedov and Mike Hamel.
Prelims get underway at 6:00 p.m. ET, followed by the main card at 9 p.m. ET. Pitbull and Sanchez should start about 10:15 p.m. ET, but the time depends on the length of the earlier fights.
