Loopy Godinez discusses her UFC 287 win over Cynthia Calvillo
Loopy Godinez and Cynthia Calvillo went back-and-forth at UFC 287 in what ended up being a great fight to watch for all the fans.
In the opening round, things were close on the feet, but Godinez did have the slight advantage as she was quicker and landing more shots than Calvillo. However, the round got interesting in the closing moments as Calvillo would secure a late takedown.
Then in the second round, things were as close as it could get and late in the round, Godinez would start to bleed from her nose, which is something that she ended up enjoying.
As Godinez was having fun inside of the octagon, she made sure to close out the fight in a big way as she definitely won the third round as she was able to land the heavier shots and she scored a late takedown of her own.
The fight left fans on their feet as they awaited octagon announcer Bruce Buffer to announce the decision of the close fight.
Buffer would announce a split decision and Godinez was the one to edge it out on the judges scorecards.
While one fighter would feel the thrill of victory and the other would feel the agony of defeat, both women respected each other at the end of the fight.
Both Godinez and Calvillo are of Mexican decent and both hope to continue a friendship in the future.
That future maybe a bit different than anticipated when the two spoke backstage following the fight as Calvillo was surprisingly released just days after the fight, but Godinez still sends all of her best wishes to Calvillo in whichever direction her career will now go.
Following UFC 287, Godinez spoke with MyMMANews while she was vacationing to discuss her win over Calvillo, her excitement for what’s next and the success of Mexican fighters this year as Brandon Moreno, Yair Rodriguez and Godinez’s friend Alexa Grasso have all claimed UFC titles this year.
