Mackenzie Dern locks up first-round knee bar against Hannah Cifers
After holding three events in the span of eight days in Jacksonville, Florida, the UFC returns to Las Vegas, Nevada for UFC on ESPN 9 tonight, Saturday, May 30.
Taking place at the UFC Apex, the event is headlined by former welterweight champion Tyron Woodley and Gilbert Burns. In the co-main event, Blagoy Ivanov takes on Augusto Sakai in a heavyweight clash.
Opening up the main card is a women’s strawweight bout between Mackenzie Dern and Hannah Cifers.
Dern is coming off her first-career defeat in a unanimous-decision loss to Amanda Ribas at UFC on ESPN+ 19 in October 2019. Dern is 2-1 inside the octagon with wins over Amanda Cooper and Ashley Yoder.
Cifers most recently fell to Angela Hill by a second round TKO at UFC on ESPN+ 24 on January 25. Prior, Cifers rattled off back-to-back wins against Jodie Esquibel and Polyana Viana.
The two were originally booked to fight at UFC on ESPN+31 on April 24. The event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

ROUND 1
Both meet in the center, Cifers wasting not time. Cifers works a knee and continues to put pressure on Dern. Cifers lands another knee. Dern escapes and the two are on their feet. Dern sets up her hand and throws a right. Cifers sets up a jab and misses with left head kick. Cifers circling, counters nicely with right hand. Dern gets a trip, but Cifers scrambles and is on top. Dern goes for a knee bar and, straightens it and gets the tap
