Macy Chiasson issues statement after submission loss to Raquel Pennington: ‘I’m def bummed but not broken’

Macy Chiasson has issued a statement following her submission loss to Raquel Pennington at UFC Vegas 45.

Chiasson stepped up on 10 days’ notice to fight Pennington and the fight was moved to featherweight in order for Chiasson to make it. Unfortunately for the Fortis MMA product, she missed weight which she apologized for but the fight went ahead.

Early on, Chiasson had success and arguably won the first round against Pennington. However, in the second round, Raquel Pennington landed a knee to Macy Chiasson’s liver, and shortly thereafter, Chiasson tapped from a submission.

Now, following the loss, Chiasson took to Instagram to release a statement on the loss where she admitted she is bummed by the loss but will use it for motivation.

“Not the results that we hoped for but I’m happy I got to end 2021 with another great fight. I’m def bummed but not broken. 10 days notice against a very known veteran in a violent game. Took a knee to the liver and put myself in a bad position that I couldn’t get out of. Both of my coaches were unable to make it because of other circumstances. A lot of variables that I had to overcome but we all do. Love this game and love the challenges I face from it. I’m always learning. Thank you @raquel_pennington @ufc and @mickmaynard for this opportunity. The year is over but the game isn’t. See y’all in 2022,” Chiasson wrote on Instagram.

With the loss, Macy Chiasson is now 8-2 as a pro but prior to the loss to Pennington, she was on a two-fight winning streak with wins over Marion Reneau and Shanna Young among others. The Fortis MMA fighter is the TUF 28 winner and is 5-2 inside the Octagon with her other wins coming over Sarah Moras, Gina Mazany, and Pannie Kianzad.
