Marc-Andre Barriault survives early storm to overwhelm and stop Julian Marquez at UFC 285
The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to us tonight, March 4, 2023, for UFC 285, going down live from the T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada.
Headlining the event is the return of perhaps the greatest mixed martial arts fighter to ever walk the earth, former UFC light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones (26-1, 1 NC), who makes his first appearance in three years tonight to challenge former interim UFC heavyweight champion Ciryl Gane (11-1) for the vacant heavyweight championship.
Co-headlining the event is also a title fight, this one coming at 125 lbs as UFC flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko (23-3) aims to make the eighth-straight defense of her title opposing no. 6 ranked Alexa Grasso (15-3).
Opening up the preliminary card tonight was a middleweight bout between Julian Marquez (9-4) and Marc-Andre Barriault (15-6, 1 NC).
Marquez had gone 2-1 over his last three outings, while Barriault had gone 1-2 over his last three.

Official Result: Marc-Andre Barriault def. Julian Marquez via TKO (punches & elbows) at 4:12 of round two
Marquez is looking good early on as he controls the center and lands some heavy punches in combination. He’s looking much more technical than we’ve seen him in the past.
Barriault is known for his relentless pace, but Marquez presses the pace on him through the first five minutes and looks incredible doing so.
Marquez begins to slow down a tad in the second; however, Barriault notices this and he pours on the pressure.
Barriault absolutely beats the living piss out of Marquez for a solid three minutes during the second round and it proved to be too much for him, as the referee was forced to stop the action late in round two.
