Maria Ribeiro explains "Wonder Woman" nickname ahead of Brave debut

Maria Ribeiro explains “Wonder Woman” nickname ahead of Brave debut

Set for her Brave Combat Federation debut, Maria Ribeiro is the latest CM System signing hoping to have an instant impact in the Brave ranks as the Strawweight prospect takes on Micol di Segni in the main card of Brave 20, set for this Saturday (22), in Hyderabad, India.

Known in her gym as “Wonder Woman”, Ribeiro explains the origins of the nickname, saying how her two personalities clash inside and outside of training.

“I’m a very dedicated athlete. I’m not afraid of getting beat up, I always go forward in training. I feel like I put on a mask everytime I train. The Wonder Woman mask, a warrior, who takes on all comers, gets beaten up and goes for broke every time. Outside of the training environment, I’m very different, I’m a woman, I’m delicate, very feminine. That’s the difference and that’s why they call me Wonder Woman”, explains Maria.

Ribeiro has only been in India for a few days, but is already enchanted with Hyderabad and hopes to put on a show for the local crowd at Brave 20. She predicts a submission victory over striker Micol di Segni.

“I’m blown away by India and Hyderabad. The city is really beautiful and the people are very friendly. The traffic is the only thing that worries me (laughs). I really want to put on a show for Brave Nation and for everyone in the arena. I’ve been studying Micol’s game and I know she’s primarily a striker, so I hope to put the fight on the ground and finish her there”.

Brave 20 is headlined by a Middleweight clash between prospects Sidney Wheeler and Khamzat Chimaev. It will be the second time Brave Combat Federation lands in India, after Brave 5, back in 2017. Brave 20 is the penultimate show of the year for Brave, who moves to Saudi Arabia for Brave 21, next Friday, December 28 to close out an unforgettable year for the promotion.
