Matchmaker Monday following UFC Vegas 22
UFC Vegas 22 was another big night for Derek Brunson as he won his main event fight against Kevin Holland.
The win puts Brunson in line for a big fight as the victory put him on a four-fight winning streak and its his second straight win over an upcoming and coming contender. Meanwhile, Holland is going to have to work his way back towards the top of the division.
Let’s find out both fighters next move on this Matchmaker Monday.
Derek Brunson
Result: defeated Kevin Holland by unanimous decision at UFC Vegas 22
Next: loser of Darren Till and Marvin Vettori
Brunson is on a roll and he’s earned a big fight. That big fight will come against the loser of Till and Vettori
The middleweight division has some moving parts to work through and I don’t think Brunson gets a guy in title contention just yet.
Robert Whittaker is fighting Kelvin Gastelum and if Whittaker wins he should get a title fight. Meanwhile, Israel Adesanya said he wants to fight Darren Till so Till can possibility slid into the title picture. Paulo Costa is also in the top tier of the division and he needs a bigger named opponent when he returns to the octagon.
Brunson is knocking on the door of jumping into a title contention fight and he may do so. However, I feel that UFC offers him the Till vs. Vettori loser for now. If he wins that fight then no doubt about it he’ll get a huge fight.
Kevin Holland
Result: lost to Derek Brunson by unanimous decision at UFC Vegas 22
Next: Brad Tavares
Holland was very active last year and it got him into a great position. Unfortunately his great run came to an end against Brunson.
Holland’s activity makes it tough to predict his next matchup because he fights so often and on short notice. However, I believe his next matchup should come against Brad Tavares. They are ranked close to one another and that is a great matchup for the fans.
