Mateusz Gamrot gets back to his winning ways with victory over Jalin Turner at UFC 285
Mateusz Gamrot wins on short notice
The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to us tonight, March 4, 2023, for UFC 285, going down live from the T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada.
Headlining the event is the return of perhaps the greatest mixed martial arts fighter to ever walk the earth, former UFC light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones (26-1), who makes his first appearance in three years tonight to challenge former interim UFC heavyweight champion Ciryl Gane (11-1) for the vacant heavyweight championship.
Co-headlining the event is also a title fight, this one coming at 125 lbs as UFC flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko (23-3) aims to make the eighth-straight defense of her title opposing no. 6 ranked Alexa Grasso (15-3).
Our second fight on the main card tonight came at 155 lbs between no. 7 ranked Mateusz Gamrot (22-2) and no. 10 ranked Jalin Turner (13-6), as Turner’s original opponent Dan Hooker was forced from the booking with a hand injury.
Gamrot, a former KSW champ-champ (145 & 155) was coming off a defeat to no. 4 ranked Beneil Dariush, a fight he went into on a three-fight finish streak, while Turner came in on a five-fight finish streak of his own.

Official Result: Mateusz Gamrot def. Jalin Turner via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 30-27)
Gamrot secures a double leg takedown about two minutes in and stays in Turner’s guard for about a minute before Turner makes his way back to his feet. Gamrot is still pressing Turner into the fence, but Turner lands a nice knee to the body followed by a two-punch combination on the break and gets back to striking range.
Gamrot is able to get him down again, though he doesn’t remain on top for long. Gamrot lands a nice left cross to the body to begin the second, and he’s starting to pick Turner apart with his leg kicks.
Just as we’re thinking this however Turner hurts Gamrot with a nasty right hand and follows it up with some more. He’s also landing some heavy body kicks, but he throws a kick that gets caught and he’s taken down straight into a mounted crucifix.
Turner regains his half guard, but remains in bottom position for the final 90 seconds of the middle stretch. Gamrot takes Turner down again in the first minute of the third, though Turner works his way up once again, but is pressed into the fence for a couple minutes until the referee separates them back to striking range.
Turner continues to land effective strikes at range, but can’t seem to keep Gamrot off him, as he’s pressed into the fence and taken down again in the final ten seconds.
Mateusz Gamrot gets back to his winning ways with a victory over Jalin Turner tonight at UFC 285.
