Matt Dugan defends title against Clinton Ewing at Live MMA at Penguin City 5
Made Men Promotions returns to Penguin City Beer in Youngstown, Ohio this weekend as “Live MMA at Penguin City 5” goes down featuring 14 amateur bouts.
In the Penguin City 5 main event, Matt Dugan will defend his featherweight title for the first time against Clinton Ewing. Dugan won the title with a standing guillotine in the second round at Live MMA at Penguin City 4 in December. That win advanced his record to 5-2, with four wins via submission.
Ewing holds a 5-4 record, but he’s never been finished and all four opponents who have defeated him have gone on to compete in the pro ranks. He earned a title shot with a submission over Edwin Vera at Live MMA at Penguin City 3 last September and was supposed to face Dugan for the title in December before being injured. Now, he’s healthy and will get his shot at the title.
For Dugan, he’s happy to get the chance to defend his title.
“My goal was to chase other promotion’s titles and get more than one title,” Dugan said on the Ohio MMA Podcast. “But, honestly, am I really a champion for Made Men if I don’t defend it? I want to defend it and hold it and prove that I’m the champion of this division. I’m going to hold on to this title as long as I can before I go pro.”
In the co-main event, unbeaten Anthony Monachino looks to advance his record when he faces Vito Morgan in a 165-pound catchweight bout. After getting his first three fights in a year, Monachino hasn’t been able to find an opponent for the last six months.
“Vito offered one at 165 a catchweight, and I was like ‘I need to fight someone,'” Monachino said when he joined the Ohio MMA Podcast. “This was going to be my last fight at 155, but we’ll take one weight higher. We’re pretty confident I can take it.”
Morgan looks to snap a two-fight losing streak after starting his career 2-0.
Also on the fight card is a flyweight bout pitting 1-0 Keegan Mahafkey vs. 2-1 Dom Savoca. Mahafkey won his debut via TKO at Live MMA at Penguin City 4, while Savoca looks to rebound from his first loss after winning his first two bouts via rear naked choke.
Luke Martin, who won the 2021 Division II wrestling national championship at Fairmount State, will also be in action. He looks to advance his perfect 2-0 record when he faces Jordan Oliver. Oliver is 2-2 and has both of his wins via stoppage.
