Inaugural Maverick MMA lightweight champion to be crowned April 7
The first Maverick MMA lightweight champion will be crowned when Sharif ‘Bam Bam’ Jones battles Tim ‘Savage’
Kunkel in thecCo-main event of Maverick MMA, April 7 at Sherman Theater in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania.
Kunkel enters the bout on the heels of a thunderous 34 second knockout of veteran Greg Quarantello.
Kunkel started his pro career with four stoppages in his first five bouts, finishing two by way of submission and two by knockout. The first was a TKO slam of Anthony McGlynn and the second a walk off highlight reel knockout of another seasoned veteran in Dean Lavin.
Jones comes into the bout riding the momentum of avenging his only professional loss to Travis Creamer.
‘Bam Bam’ owns a decision win over Jim Jordan and also a submission stoppage of the aforementioned Greg Quarantello. Sharif has 4 wins by KO/TKO and two by way of submission. Other than the decision win over Jordan, he has finished all of his opponents.
Two other top lightweights will also be competing on the card that evening as Nate VanTassel takes on Vadim Ogar in a catchweight bout at 165lbs.
Ogar enters the bout with a 6-1 professional record and owns three career submission victories. Van Tassel is coming off a second round TKO win over Jim Jordan and is looking to get a shot at the winner of the Jones/Kunkel lightweight title fight with a victory over Ogar.
