Max Holloway defends title against Frankie Edgar in UFC 218 headliner

It is now official; the fight you knew was coming has been booked.  UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway will defend his title against former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar.

The fight will headline UFC 218 at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan on December 2. ESPN was first to confirm the news with UFC officials.

Hawaii’s Holloway will be making his first title defense when he is challenged by the number two ranked featherweight.  Holloway will also looking to be win his 12th straight fight.

Edgar is on a two-fight win-streak since challenging former champion Jose Aldo for the title a second time.  Edgar has won seven of his last 11 fights.  The only losses came when he lost the lightweight title to Benson Henderson, and then also in the rematch.  Then he challenged Aldo for the title twice, three years apart. With a win over Holloway, Edgar will join a short list of fights to have won UFC titles in two weight divisions.  The list includes Randy Couture, B.J. Penn, and Conor McGregor.
