Max Holloway releases statement after UFC 276 loss, calls Alexander Volkanovski the pound-for-pound best fighter
Max Holloway had nothing but respect for Alexander Volkanovski after UFC 276.
In the co-main event of the card, Holloway and Volkanovski were having their trilogy match in an intriguing matchup even though the champ was up 2-0 in the series. The second fight was super close and many thought Holloway should’ve gotten his hand raised but in the third fight, it was all Volkanovski.
The featherweight champ dominated from start to finish and ended up winning a lopsided decision win. After the defeat, Holloway took to Twitter on Sunday to release a statement and called Volkanovski the pound-for-pound best fighter in the UFC.
To all the fans do not cry for me Argentina. This is part of life. We need to rebuild and we will. I love you!

“I’m still up 2-0 on knockdowns for trilogy. Prob gonna need a 4th to settle this. Just playing. Congrats to my brother @alexvolkanovski. Go get that 55 strap. You earned the shot. You’re #1 P4P right now,” Holloway tweeted. “To all the fans do not cry for me Argentina. This is part of life. We need to rebuild, and we will. I love you!”
As Holloway wrote, Volkanovski has expressed his interest in wanting to fight for the lightweight title next time out as he looks to become the champ-champ. Along with that, with his win over Holloway he will likely enter the top three of the pound-for-pound rankings and according to the Hawaiian, he believes Volkanovski should be atop those rankings.
Max Holloway (23-7) is now 0-3 to the featherweight champion in Volkanovski and it’s uncertain where he will go from here, but as he says he will need time to rebuild. Before the loss on Saturday, he was riding a two-fight win streak after defeating Yair Rodriguez and Calvin Kattar by decision. Those wins snapped his two-fight losing skid after dropping the back-to-back decisions to Volkanovski.
In his career, Holloway holds notable wins over Jose Aldo, twice, Anthony Pettis, Charles Oliveira, Brian Ortega, Frankie Edgar, Jeremy Stephens, and Cub Swanson among countless others.
