Michael Aswell earns bonus and call back after gruesome fight
The “Texas Kid” Michael Aswell did not get a win at Dana White’s Contender Series on August 27, but the 23-year-old fighter from Houston did enough to impress the boss.
UFC CEO Dana White took to Instagram to show off a gruesome gash over Aswell’s eye after his fight with Bogdan Grad, along with the ensuing stitches required to repair it.
Bogdan won a split decision and a UFC contract, but White was so impressed with both men’s performances that he awarded them both their win and show purses, along with an additional $5,000 bonus.
Later in the broadcast White did announce that he spoke with UFC matchmaker Sean Shelby and, once Aswell is fully healed up, the UFC intends to offer him an opportunity later down the road.
