Michael Bisping makes argument for Sean Strickland getting UFC middleweight title shot
UFC Hall of Famer Michael Bisping made an argument for Sean Strickland getting the next UFC middleweight title shot.
Strickland knocked out Abus Magomedov in the main event of UFC Vegas 76 this past weekend, which gives him two straight wins following a decision victory over Nassourdine Imavov earlier this year. Although he lost a close split decision to Jared Cannonier last year, the fight was very competitive and he’s looked outstanding in his two fights since then. As Strickland is one of the very few middleweights who has not fought UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya yet, it makes sense why he is now being bandied about as a potential title challenger at 185 lbs.
One of the people who believe Strickland could get a title shot is Bisping, the former middleweight champion himself. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Bisping explained in further detail why he wants to see Strickland get a title shot.
“Sean Strickland got the job done, and I’m telling you, what a performance. The man’s a character, he’s great on the microphone, he loves America, and people love him for that, as well. Of course he’s a big patriot and rightly so. Sensational performance. He wants to fight. He calls him the Chinese champion. I don’t know why he does that, (but) he wants to fight Israel Adesanya,” Bisping said (via MMAjunkie.com).
“He feels that Israel Adesanya has fought everyone. Of course, he’s fought Robert Whittaker twice, and the winner of Dricus (Du Plessis) vs. Robert is going to get the next title fight. He said there’s no way that Dricus wins, and he also said people don’t want to see Whittaker fight him again. I’ll be honest, after that one last night (win over Magomedov), I wouldn’t mind seeing it. And, of course, the trash talk in the lead-up to the fight would be phenomenal.”
