Undefeated amateur mixed martial artist Michael DeLouisa (5-0) was set to fight Lirim (Lenny) Rufati next Saturday, May 19, in Hockessin, Delaware at Stellar Fights 37. Unfortunately Rufati was injured less than 10 days out and is unable to compete. Stellar Fights then offered another fighter the opportunity to step in against the Driven MMA prospect in DeLouisa. Not many fighters are stepping up to fight the 24-year old submission artist, especially on short notice.
With no opponent slated to fill the void it appears as if DeLouisa will sit this one out, but is eager to get back into the cage.
“If you sign up to fight me, I want you to show up to fight,” DeLouisa said. “I don’t want anybody pulling out. You better train smart, and you better train safe, and you better not go with stupid people who bring their egos on the mat cause this is a waste of my time.”
Interview with Michael DeLouisa at Driven MMA:
DeLouisa won the Maverick MMA 165-pound title in 2017 and then was slated to move down to challenge for the lightweight title as well. That fight never came to be, but DeLouisa says he would like the opportunity to compete under the Maverick MMA banner once again.
Now engaged to be married and with child on the way, DeLouisa says that his time in the amateur system is limited as he wants to start getting paid for his craft.
“A lot’s changed. I just got engaged and I found out I’m gonna be a dad,” DeLouisa said. “So a lots changed. I gotta start putting food on the table. I gotta start putting money in my own pockets. I want to get three more fights amateur, maybe two more fights depending on who they are, and I want to go pro as soon as possible.”
Look for Michael DeLouisa to be competing in the very near future.
